Why whole beans?
Coffee, especially pre-ground coffee, from big box retailers is not really fresh. The coffee was roasted weeks or months ago and lost most of its natural aromas, acidity, and often taste bitter. The most flavorful coffee is between 1-3 weeks after roasting. The shelf life for whole beans is longer than ground. We recommend for you to wait to grind your coffee until you’re ready to brew it. Volatile flavors and aromatics concentrated inside a coffee bean are exposed by grinding. Grinding before brewing gives you a good chance of getting the most taste into your cup. Whole beans give you control over your coffee’s flavor. You can adjust your speed of extraction to give you the best balanced flavor. With whole beans and a grinder, you’re in control of your brew. For example, if you want to lessen the boldness or bitterness, you can make your grind a little larger and extraction time shorter.
So instead of buying pre-ground coffee or commercial coffee, try grinding and brewing your own coffee with fresh specialty beans. You’ll be surprised by the rich aroma and taste!
